Instagram Now Fully Compatible With iPhone 5 And iOS 6

For a while it looked liked Facebook’s new commitment to mobile strategy had come to a rather abrupt end after updating their own iOS mobile app into a true native experience. It isn’t really a secret that the world’s largest social network is also now the proud owner of what is possibly the world’s most popular image sharing app, Instagram. Mark Zuckerberg’s company acquired Instagram in a cash plus stock deal, and although the takeover resulted in a rather large update with some great new features, users have been left behind for iPhone 5 support.

Thankfully the wait is over and the App Store is pushing updates to those who have Instagram already installed on their devices. If you are new to the world of photo sharing with Instagram, then first of all where have you been for the last two years? And secondly, you can now go and grab the app from the App Store as a free of charge download with full iPhone 5 and iOS 6 support.

The guts of this latest Instagram update basically adds in iPhone 5 support that extends the interface of the app to the extents of the new larger display that ships with Apple’s sixth-generation iPhone.

As well as the iPhone 5 and iOS 6 compatibility updates, the Instagram team have also pushed some changes to the way new users are handled as well as making amendments to the process of recovering lost or forgotten passwords. The obligatory app enhancements and security fixes are also mentioned in the App Store changelog. From first glance of the 3.1.0 version of Instagram, there doesn’t appear to be any visual or interface changes to the software, other than eating up those additional pixels that iPhone 5 owners have.

A large number of popular and well-used apps have already been updated to be fully compatible with the new iPhone 5, rather than offering their functionality in a letter-box interface. Users will no doubt be joyous that Instagram has followed the lead of those apps and it’s parent Facebook app in pushing out this update, and might I add that the Photo Maps feature added in version 3.0 looks stunning on the iPhone 5.
