GTA 5 To Get Xbox One, PS4 Makeover This Year!

GTA5

Rockstar Games has indicated that its flagship Grand Theft Auto 5 title could be in line for its next-gen makeover before the end of the company’s fiscal year, which is March 2015. Although he didn’t explicitly mention an updated GTA 5 at any point during a keynote at a financial call, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two, revealed that his company is “excited about what [Rockstar] has in store for the new generation of systems this fiscal year,” which is a not-so-subtle hint that the record-busting title could hit the PS4 and Xbox One within the next ten months.

In the gaming world last year, the arrival of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the run-up to the holiday season was supposed to steal the show, but in fact, the launch of these two next-gen machines was almost upstaged by Rockstar Games’ eagerly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 5. Initially slated for the spring before being pushed back to September, the general response proved that it was very much worth the wait, and although we knew that initially, the title wouldn’t be ready for either the PS4 or Xbox One, it always seemed likely that eventually, the time would come.

With 33 million copies sold and counting, GTA 5 is the king of the gaming world, and with much of its appeal focusing around some quite breathtaking visuals, it seems only a matter of time before we get to see an up-scaled, improved version running on the more advanced hardware.

Having played a number of games myself on both old and new-gen consoles, the difference in graphical performance has been like night and day, and even though a re-launch on the PS4 and Xbox One certainly won’t yield the strong sales it did before, it will – to many – still be worth picking up.

Such was the success of GTA 5 that it took just three days to gross $1 billion, so it’s no wonder that Zelnick was full of praise for the achievements of Rockstar.

If, as we strongly suspect, a next-gen bump is in the pipeline, let’s just hope that it doesn’t hit as many issues along the way as the original edition did last year, and that it does, in fact, make it out before March of next year.
