Grand Theft Auto 5 Makes $1 Billion In Just Three Days!

GTA5

With all the news being taken up with Apple and its almost impossible to find smartphones, it’s easy to forget that there were other big releases this week. Just days before the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c went on sale, arguably the biggest gaming release of the year happened.

Take-Two Interactive’s Grand Theft Auto 5 was released on Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, and it turns out it was rather popular. Just like an iPhone launch, stores saw lines form for the big release, with many retailers opening at midnight so that gamers could get their hands on GTA 5 as soon as possible. Popular doesn’t really do the release justice, it seems.

It is also now clear that the game wasn’t just popular on the first day of its release, either. Grand Theft Auto 5 made $800 million in the first 24 hours when it went on sale, the game’s makers have now announced that the title has managed to rake in a cool $1 billion in just 72 hours on sale, which is unsurprisingly something of a record, and a rather big one. As a market, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 needed a full 15 days to reach the same milestone last year, and we all know how popular Call of Duty games are these days!

Grand Theft Auto releases have historically been hugely popular amongst gamers, but the fifth installment’s success is unprecedented regardless. Making a billion dollars in just three days is the thing that dreams are made of, and we suspect there are some very happy people at Take-Two Interactive offices today, and rightly so.

Grand Theft Auto 5 was released worldwide on Tuesday and has received rave and positive reviews both from the gaming press and those that have stumped up their own cash for the privilege of playing in the vast game world created by Take-Two Interactive.

The only question we have now is how anyone managed to drag themselves away from GTA 5 long enough to get in line for an iPhone!

The one thing that’s left now for the game makers to do is release the PC version of GTA 5 as soon as possible and surprise everyone with an immediate release of the game on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. We’re sure the former will indeed happen, but can’t say anything about the latter, yet.
