A future iPhone could boast a whopping 200-megapixel camera, according to a new report by leaker Digital Chat Station, picked up by MacRumors.
The leaker, known for posting information to the Chinese social media platform Weibo, has previously shared information that turned out to be accurate.

However, it’s still important to remember that this should be taken with a pinch of salt until confirmed.
According to the leaker Apple could use a 200-megapixel camera sensor similar to that of the Galaxy S23 Ultra that launched back in 2023. A similar camera has since been added to the subsequent Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy S25 Ultra. So far, Apple’s iPhones have lagged behind, although recent models have a 48-megapixel main camera.
It’s difficult to know exactly when we should expect the 200-megapixel camera to launch, however. There has so far been no suggestion that it will be part of the iPhone 18 Pro lineup for next year. It’s also expected that the iPhone 17 Pro, set to be announced in September, will use a 48-megapixel main camera.
That might suggest that it could be a few years before we see Apple make the jump to 200 megapixels, and it might argue that it doesn’t need to do it just yet anyway. Its iPhones are regularly among the best models when it comes to photography and videography each year.
