Apple appears to have some interesting camera upgrades planned for the iPhone 18 Pro, and they may have just been revealed through hidden code in iOS 27.
A deep dive into the latest iOS 27 beta code by MacRumors forum member “pdfu” has uncovered references to five camera features that Apple has not announced yet.

While these features are not currently available to users, they could arrive with the iPhone 18 Pro or through a future iOS 27 update.
One of the biggest additions is exposure scopes. The Camera app could gain waveform and histogram tools, giving photographers a better way to judge exposure while taking photos and videos. A histogram shows how bright or dark different parts of an image are, while a waveform also shows where those brightness levels appear in the frame.
Apple also appears to be working on focus peaking and highlight warnings. Focus peaking would place a colored outline around areas that are sharply focused, while highlight warnings could identify parts of a shot that are becoming overexposed.
Another useful change is repeated self-timer shots. Instead of taking just one photo after the countdown, the iPhone could automatically start another countdown after each shot, allowing users to capture several photos in a row.
The code also points to manual focus controls. This would let users set and lock focus themselves instead of relying entirely on autofocus. Apple already offers similar controls in its Final Cut Camera app.
The fifth feature is particularly interesting because it could be tied directly to new iPhone hardware. iOS 27 includes code for aperture-based image correction, which adjusts image processing depending on the camera’s aperture setting. This is notable because the iPhone 18 Pro is widely expected to feature a variable-aperture main camera.
None of these features are currently accessible in iOS 27 betas, and Apple could still decide not to release some of them. However, their appearance in the code suggests the iPhone 18 Pro could bring some significant camera improvements beyond the upgrades Apple has already announced.
