Download: Apple’s iOS 17.4 Release Candidate Now Available

Apple has today made the very first iOS 17.4 Release Candidate update available for download by developers.

Those who are registered developers can now download the new iOS 17.4 RC update on their test devices ahead of what is likely to be a public release next week assuming no big issues are found.

If any bugs are identified that need to be fixed ahead of time, Apple will likely release a second RC update for download over the coming days.

This iOS 17.4 update is a big one and brings some notable changes to customers who use iPhones in the EU. Thanks to the Digital Markets Act, Apple will allow third-party app stores in the EU while there is also support for web browsers that use third-party browsing engines rather than Safari’s WebKit has has been required until now.

It’s important to note that these changes are only going to affect those who buy their iPhones in the EU, although there are some changes coming to those globally as well. Those changes include new emojis as well as support for updated CarPlay capabilities like putting the Apple Maps app on a second in-car display.

Other changes include support for transcripts in the Apple Podcasts app, while improvements to the Stolen Device Protection feature are also included for those who have that feature enabled.

This iOS 17.4 update is likely to be the last major update before Apple announces iOS 18, the software that will then go through its own months-long beta program before being released to the public this fall.
