Cydia Impactor CPP 160 Error Fix: Here’s What We Know So Far

A growing number of users are starting to report that they are experiencing a fairly troubling issue with the use and reliability of Cydia Impactor. When trying to sideload an app onto an iOS device (also required when jailbreaking with tools like Electra), users are being greeted with error “CPP 160”, which essentially stops them dead in their tracks.

The majority of the jailbreak community has generally been well aware that Cydia Impactor isn’t perfect. During its lifetime, the Jay Freeman Saurik-created software has continuously thrown up a number of random error messages, all of which affect a user in one way or another.

Typically speaking, there has been a fairly reliable method of actually getting around those problems and device owners have been able to move on and install whatever app they were trying to sideload. However, this time around, that doesn’t appear to be entirely possible.

The “CPP 160” error is presenting itself when iPhone and iPad owners are trying to sideload an app – such as the Electra IPA – onto their devices. It had initially been thought that this problem was present on not just Windows, but macOS as well. However, that has now shown to not be the case with macOS currently not throwing up this error.

Some people have had some success with virtualized versions of macOS running on a Windows machine but that definitely doesn’t appear to be a “one-size-fits-all” approach to rectifying the problem. Based on forums and posted information, it seems to have failed as much as it has succeeded.

So, just what is the solution here? Well, as painful as it is to admit, there doesn’t actually appear to be one at this moment in time unless you have access to a Mac, or can try out a virtualized macOS environment.

The speculation and general feeling seem to suggest that Saurik himself is going to need to come out of hiding and attempt to fix this problem, either via a server-side update, or as an actual update to Cydia Impactor itself. We all know that the creator of Cydia and other tools under the Cydia brand has been away from the scene for quite some time. So, with that in mind, it’s unlikely that he is going to step out of the shadows now to fix a problem with Cydia Impactor. However, only time will tell and stranger things have definitely happened on this crazy ride that we call jailbreaking.
