Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro Max was used to take some breathtaking shots from NASA’s Artemis II mission to the Moon, and now Apple has sought to promote the fact online.
In a post on the X social network, Apple CEO Tim Cook made sure to point out that an iPhone was used to take the impressive photos.

“Congratulations to Artemis II on a successful mission! You captured the wonders of space and our planet beautifully, taking iPhone photography to new heights, and we’re grateful you shared it with the world,” Cook wrote in the post. “Your work continues to inspire us all to think different. Welcome home!”
It was announced earlier this year that NASA would allow an iPhone to be used during the mission.
The device had to go through testing to ensure that it was qualified for use in orbit, and it’s reported that all four crew members were given their own iPhone 17 Pro Max to take photos and videos during the mission.
The mission to the Moon was NASA’s first since 1972, with the crew flying by the far side of the Moon this time around. It also saw them become the people to have gone the furthest from the Earth. All four crew members safely returned home after a descent on Friday.
