Apple Requests Retrial, Seeks Sales Ban And More Money From Samsung For Copying iPhone

They say there’s no rest for the wicked, and that’s never been more true for Apple’s lawyers after the Cupertino firm set about another attempt to put Samsung out of business in the United Stated while simultaneously taking the Korean company for as much as it can in the process.

Clearly not content to have won a payout to the tune of $119.6 million after Samsung was recently ordered to pay for infringing on Apple’s patents, Apple has now sought to really stick the boot in by demanding even more than the $2.2 billion it originally wanted – it’s now asking the courts to force Samsung to hand over $3.2 billion plus $6.4 billion in interest. Oh, and an extra $11,040 interest for every day it doesn’t get its money, plus sales ban on Samsung devices that infringe on Apple’s patents.

Apple Samsung

In a move that will no doubt do the firm no favors amongst even the die-hard Apple fans out there, the iPhone maker’s lawyers have requested a retrial after it claimed that Samsung’s own internal documents detailed its attempts to copy "hundreds of software features from the iPhone, including Apple’s patented “slide to unlock” technology, in order to make Samsung’s own products more competitive.” So there!

Apple shows no obvious signs of letting up in its pursuit to show Samsung – and anyone else willing to take it on – that it’s not messing around when it comes to patents. Whether you agree with them or not, there’s no denying that the patents keep plenty of lawyers in business, especially if they happen to work for Apple or Samsung!

Just when we all thought it was safe to come out from beneath the patent-repelling blanket, Apple once again goes on the offensive. It’s early days in this retrial attempt, but we don’t expect we’ve heard the last of it yet.

No matter how hard we wish that we had.
