Apple Launches ‘Apps For (RED)’ Section In App Store For World AIDS Day

Apple has been behind the (RED) intuitive for eight years, and this year it has begun the first ever worldwide App Store initiative that sees 25 of the biggest apps out there being made available with special, limited edition content under the (PRODUCT)RED banner.

With proceeds going to the World AIDS Day campaign, Apple will also be doing its part in-store across November 28th and December 1st with a  portion of its sales going to the charity.

Founded by U2 frontman Bono, the (RED) initiative has long been part of the fight against HIV/AIDS worldwide and Apple has been a part of that via offering special (PRODUCT)RED versions of its hardware. This year marks the first time the App Store has been part of the annual push to irradiate AIDS, however.

In a press release published by the Cupertino tech giant itself, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook outlined why Apple gets involved with (PRODUCT)RED.

Apple is a proud supporter of (RED) because we believe the gift of life is the most important gift anyone can give. For eight years, our customers have been helping fight AIDS in Africa by funding life-saving treatments which are having a profoundly positive impact. This year we are launching our biggest fundraising push yet with the participation of Apple’s retail and online stores, and some of the brightest minds in the App Store are lending their talents to the effort as well.
