Apple announced the new updated M5 Pro and M6 Mac mini desktop computers yesterday, with the machines set to ship towards the end of September.
Now, a new report points out that some backordered M4 Mac mini orders are being replaced with orders for the new, upgraded models.
MacRumpors reports that some customers have received an email from Apple confirming the news. The original orders for M4 Mac minis would have set buyers back $799 for the base model. The new M5 version costs $899, effectively giving these lucky buyers a $100 discount.
The email notes that the upgrade will take place “at no additional cost.”

As you may know, Apple recently announced the new Mac mini. Since your order has yet to ship, we automatically upgraded you to the new Mac mini at no additional cost.
For everyone else, the M5 Pro and M6 Mac mini are now available for preorder, with machines expected to begin shipping to customers ahead of a September 22 launch.
Apple also announced the new Mac Studio computers with M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips. They’re also available for preorder now with the same September 22 launch date. When you receive your order may well depend on the configuration you choose, however, given the current supply chain issues relating to RAM and storage.
