Apple: iPhone 6 And iPhone 6 Plus Have Set New Overnight Pre-Order Sales Record

It’s almost certain beyond doubt that any iPhone launch will see a massive success for the device, but could things go even better? With the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, it seems they have.

In a statement to Re/code, the Cupertino firm today confirmed that the iPhone 6 has set new records for the pre-orders – all in less than 24 hours after the pre-orders had started!

The statement doesn’t clarify any volumes as of yet, but an Apple representative did confirm to Re/code that “response to iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus has been incredible with a record number of pre-orders overnight.” This is despite the several reports of online store websites not loading or incorrect configurations, which is, again, owing to the massive general interest in the new iPhone and people’s willingness to buy the device.

On a similar note, AT&T – Apple’s long time partner in iPhone sales, also reported earlier today that the demand for iPhone 6 and particularly iPhone 6 Plus is the best that it has seen in the last couple of years, with pre-orders pouring in like hot cakes. To that effect, it has also been reported that the iPhone 6 Plus is already sold out on pre-orders, and Apple is quoting 3-4 weeks shipping estimates. However, this can also be attributed to the earlier-reported production line issues that (allegedly) didn’t allow Apple to produce as many iPhone 6 Plus units as it would have liked to meet demand. Still, sold out in a matter of just 14 hours is an achievement in itself.

It’s worth noting that the iPhone 6 (4.7 inch variant) is still well-stocked, and you can get your hands on it with (relative) ease. That is, if you’re willing to camp outside an Apple Store when the device becomes available next week.

Pre-order models are generally a very successful business tactic for not only companies but their partners as well. Of course, there’s a particular pre-order quota and you can always expect to find units when you walk into an Apple Store. However, this interest in pre-orders indicates that Apple might be headed for a really successful launch weekend, and might even break its last year’s record of 9 million iPhone 5s units sold on opening weekend.
