Apple CEO Tim Cook: We’re Committed To Desktop Macs, New Models In Roadmap

Apple CEO Tim Cook has sought to allay fears within the company that desktop Macs may be on the verge of being phased out by telling employees that new machines are on the company’s roadmap.

Apple has received criticism for the lack of updates to the Mac Pro, iMac and Mac mini lineup of computers, but it appears that the company is well aware of the resentment that is starting to build up amongst Apple fans.

If there has been one common thread through the last few weeks and perhaps month of Apple commentary it has been a collective disappointment in the way Apple has, at least from outside the company, been mismanaging its Mac lineup. Ranging from the highest end Mac Pro all the way down to the lowest end Mac mini, Apple’s desktop computers are sorely in need of a refresh, with few signs that such a thing is on the horizon. Until now.

With more and more prominent Apple watchers questioning the company’s commitment to the Mac, company CEO Tim Cook has sent a message to all employees assuring them that the company is very much on board with the Mac, and that it is “committed to desktops.”

In the message, posted to an internal message board, Tim Cook confirmed that new Macs are in the pipeline, though no timescales were given.

Some folks in the media have raised the question about whether we’re committed to desktops. If there’s any doubt about that with our teams, let me be very clear: we have great desktops in our roadmap. Nobody should worry about that.

Apple’s entire Mac lineup is in desperate need of some TLC. The iMac was last updated a considerable 433 days ago, whilst the Mac mini hasn’t been on the receiving end of a refresh for a massive 795 days. The Mac mini is thoroughly loved compared to the high end Mac Pro however. The trashcan-like Mac was last updated an embarrassing 1,097 days ago.
