Apple CEO Tim Cook Remembers Steve Jobs In Newly Published Letter

In a letter published by The Steve Jobs Archive, Apple CEO Tim Cook can be seen reflecting on joining Apple as well as the work that he and Jobs did to “right the ship” during a difficult period for the company.

The letter, which is dated August 2024, discusses Cooks’ joining of Apple back in 1998.

The current CEO needed to be convinced to join the company, and it was Jobs who was able to make the move happen.

I’ll never forget that first conversation with Steve. At the time, Apple had been struggling and Steve was working to right a ship that had drifted in his absence. Many people doubted the company could survive, and I was warned that accepting a job there would come with risks. But when Steve spoke, any trepidation I harbored instantly dissolved. I had never met someone with so much passion and vision. He spoke with charisma and clarity—about a future where technology could unlock a wellspring of human creativity and potential, connecting us and uplifting us in ways even he had yet to imagine.

Cook went on to describe joining Apple as “the greatest decision I’ve ever made.”

The letter is one of a number shared by The Steve Jobs Archive. Other letters came from industry titans like Disney CEO Bob Iger as well as former Apple design chief Jony Ive.

A new introductory letter from Jobs’ wife, Laurene Powell Jobs, has also been added to the archive, which was launched by his friends and family in 2022.
