Videos have popped up showing extremely disgruntled customer heading into an Apple Store in Dijon, France with what appears to be the sole intention of smashing up the displays of as much Apple products as possible.
The individual is shown pulling display devices away from their holders in order to lay them flat on the in-store tables, where he then appears to smash the hardware using a metal ball that’s more typically used to play the popular French game, Boules. We’ve seen brutal treatment of Apple devices on camera before, but this particular customer adds more excitement to this genre with a touch of reality, all caught on tape.
It seems that the extremely annoyed gentleman in question preferred to smash iPhones rather than any other of Apple’s equipment, with most of his attention being put toward destroying Apple’s on-display smartphones. He did of course take the opportunity when it arose to get his hands on a MacBook and an iMac, causing what’s likely to be thousands of dollars’ worth of damage to that equipment too.
One would ascertain that the action was caught on CCTV camera in the store, but while those may take time to surface we already have the social media abuzz with videos made by an onlooker thanks to @quentin_IOS, who made sure that they do the rounds in the public domain.
There’s no real official confirmation about what the gentleman’s gripe was, but it appears that he can be heard shouting out about his consumer rights as he goes on a rampage through the store causing not only tons of damage to devices, but also presumably costing Apple or its insurers a lot of money in the process for lost stock and inventory. A number of reports to come out after the incident are suggesting that the unhappy customer was complaining about Apple’s refusal to honor an EU requirement that stipulates that warranty should be provided for two years after the purchase of hardware.
It’s obviously impossible to ascertain everything that’s actually going on in the video, but it looks as though the staff within the Apple Dijon (Apple has removed the ‘store’ moniker from retail outlets) set off a fire alarm in the hope of evacuating customers in the store to get them away from harm. Plenty of Apple hardware smashed, but thankfully there are no reports of anyone actually being put in danger or hurt as part of the rampage.
