iPhone Duo Uses Mac’s Edge Light Feature For Video Calls

Apple’s iPhone Duo will officially go on sale in just a few hours, and there are a few features that the company hasn’t officially announced but have popped up in early reviews.

One such feature is Edge Light, just like the feature of the same name that is already available for Macs.

Edge Light is a simple feature that aims to improve the lighting when users join video calls. By lighting the edge of the display, the iPhone Duo will provide front lighting, which will help brighten the face of the person on the call.

The feature will work in video calling apps like FaceTime and works in much the same way as a physical ring light would.

The feature appears to only work when the iPhone Duo is open, using the inner display. It’s also unclear whether this means that the same Edge Light feature will also come to the iPad as part of a future software update, or if it will be limited to the iPhone Duo.

Those who were able to get their preorders in quickly will receive their new iPhone Duo tomorrow, October 23. But anyone who didn’t will face a wait — ordering the iPhone Duo today means waiting as long as January 2027, depending on the model you choose and your location.
