Google Maps is bringing Google’s AI assistant, Gemini, to Apple CarPlay, making it easier for drivers to ask questions and manage their trips using voice commands.
The new feature lets drivers talk to Gemini directly from Google Maps while navigating, without having to pick up their iPhones. Tapping the Gemini icon on the right side of the screen starts a conversation, allowing users to ask questions that go beyond basic directions.

For example, drivers can ask Gemini to find a park with great city views, check whether the weather and traffic conditions are suitable for a visit, and then start navigation while avoiding toll roads. Instead of searching for each detail separately, users can handle several steps through a single conversation.
Gemini can also help drivers report traffic problems using their voice, making it easier to alert other road users about disruptions without typing.
This is the first time Google Maps has offered voice assistant features directly through CarPlay. Previously, Google Assistant was available when using Google Maps on an iPhone, but this new integration brings a more conversational AI experience to the car’s dashboard.

The feature is already available in the United States, with a wider global rollout underway. It brings Google Maps on CarPlay closer to the Gemini-powered navigation experience available on Android and iOS, as well as Android Auto.
For drivers, the main benefit is convenience. Gemini can help with planning and navigation through natural conversation, letting users focus more on the road and less on tapping through menus.
