Report Claims Apple Has Increased iPhone Duo Orders By A Full 30%

Apple’s iPhone Duo is set to go on sale on October 23, and while demand is expected to be modest, a new report claims that Apple has actually increased orders because demand is higher than initially expected.

While preorders are yet to begin, and won’t for another few days, Securities Times in China claims that Apple expects orders to be high enough to need more units.

According to the report, Apple has increased orders within its supply chain by a whopping 30% when compared to its initial requests. However, even with the increased orders it’s claimed that there will still be fewer than 10 million iPhone Duo handsets built before the end of this year.

Estimates have the figure closer to seven million for the initial order, pushing the new figure to just below that 10 million figure.

However, with so many questions still remaining about actual iPhone Duo demand, it’s unclear where Apple is getting its information. The iPhone Duo will be available for preorder on October 16, so it’s difficult to see how the company could have a true picture of demand at this point.

That means it’s also difficult to fully understand how this report can be accurate, but we’ll have to wait and see if it is corroborated before we pass judgment.
