First Major Windows 10 Update KB3081424 Released, Here’s How To Get It Now

Users of Microsoft’s recently released Windows 10 operating system will notice a new update arriving iminently, with the company’s first major update to the software starting to roll out. Microsoft isn’t being overly forthcoming about exactly what the update brings with it, other than to say that it contains “non–security-related changes to enhance the functionality of Windows 10 through new features and improvements.”

The update, which is rolling out to existing installations of Windows 10 at the time or writing, is labelled as KB3081424, which is a little less interesting than the name previously suggested for it – Service Release 1. The less impressive title is backed up by the similarly low key update description that greets users when the update is installing.

Windows 10 updates are cumulative. Therefore, this package contains all previously-released fixes (see KB 3074683). If you have installed previous updates, only the new fixes that are contained in this package will be downloaded and installed to your computer.

Those looking to download the update will have to download 325MB of data which while sizeable isn’t one of the larger packages that Microsoft has lumbered users with over the years. While Microsoft isn’t elaborating as to what the update contains, with Windows 10 being very much in its infancy we suggest getting the update downloaded and installed ASAP, especially if you are currently experiencing any sort of performance or stability issues.

To get the update, navigate to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update to grab the KB3081424 update.

Windows 10 has only been available for a week and is already receiving impressive reviews from users and pundits alike which is in stark contrast with the Windows 8/8.1 release that came before it. Microsoft is currently in the midst of a resurgence of sorts, and Windwos 10 will be a key part of that in the coming years.
