Owners of some Toyota vehicles can now use Apple’s digital car key implementation to unlock and start their vehicles, according to a new report.
Apple announced support for digital car keys via the Wallet app back in 2020, but support for the feature has so far been slow to come.

Carmakers need to add the feature to their vehicles, something that has caused a slower than usual rollout. Only a select few carmakers are on board, including Audi, BMW, Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo.
Now, 9to5Mac reports that some trims of the 2026 Toyota RAV4 now support Apple Wallet’s car key implementation in the United States. It’s unclear whether other vehicles in the Toyota lineup are also supported, or indeed which versions of the RAV4 are in board.
Toyota’s support uses Ultra Wideband technology, so supported iPhones and Apple Watches simply need to be near a vehicle for it to be unlocked.
The Apple Watch Series 6 or newer supports the feature, while the iPhone 11 and most of the newer models do too. However, owners of the iPhone SE 2, iPhone SE 3, and iPhone 16e are left out due to the lack of Ultra Wideband support.
Apple’s car key support webpage has not yet been updated to add the Toyota vehicles, but it’s likely that more clarity on vehicles and trim levels will come once that happens.
