Apple’s recent release of the public beta version of iOS 26 came after weeks of developer betas that have become the most popular beta program yet, according to CEO Tim Cook.
The iOS 26 software’s first public beta was released alongside versions of macOS 26 and iPadOS 26, with Cook telling Apple’s earnings call that the three developer betas were “by far the most popular developer betas we’ve had.

Cook’s comments, shared by a Six Colors transcript, show that developer interest in the new line so betas is particularly high, but it’s easy to see why.
Unlike other previous betas, this round includes a big new design language called Liquid Glass. With that in mind, app developers need to make sure that their wares are updated and match that new language. To do that, they need to download the new betas onto their test devices in order to test their own apps during development.
Liquid Glass is the biggest change in the way iOS and Apple’s other platform software looks in some years, and it is sure to see the biggest and best apps follow suit.
The new software is expected to be released to the public in its final form this September alongside the unveiling of the new iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro handsets.
