Apple’s first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, doesn’t go on sale until the end of October. But apps for the new phone are already in the works, and one will turn your new $2,000 foldable phone into a 1980s Sony Walkman.
Developer Vidit Bhargava created the app Duo-Man at a hackathon, and it will do more than just look like a Walkman — it’ll actually work, too.
According to Bhargava, Duo-Man offers “the complete Walkman experience”. Opening the iPhone Duo will give users the chance to choose and insert a cassette. Closing the iPhone Duo will begin playing it.
And to make the experience as realistic as possible, the sounds of the clicks and even static noise were recorded from a real-life Sony Walkman.
The story goes that the app was only created as a bit of fun initially. But the response means that it will now be launching as a real app in the App Store, giving future iPhone Duo owners the chance to take it for a spin themselves.
Duo-Man offers the complete walkman experience on the iPhone Duo. Open the Duo to pick and ‘insert’ the cassette, Close the Duo to start listening.

The iPhone Duo goes up for preorder on October 16 and then goes on sale on October 23. It’ll cost $1,999 for the 256GB model, with other storage capacities on offer for those who need it. There’s no word yet on how much the new Duo-Man app will cost, though.
