The iPhone Air 2 Might Not Debut Until 2027, But It’ll Get A 2nd Camera

Following reports that Apple has delayed the iPhone Air 2 launch from its original fall 2026 window, a new report claims that the delay means a launch is now penciled in for 2027. And the delay is for a good reason.

According to The Information, Apple has chosen to redesign the iPhone Air shape to allow it to add a second camera.

The current iPhone Air only has a single 48-megapixel Fusion camera, with some buyers put off by the lack of a telephoto or ultrawide shooter.

The Information previously reported that Apple had chosen to push the iPhone Air 2 to a spring 2027 release, shipping 2027 entirely.

Instead, some Apple engineers are hoping to release a redesigned version with a second camera lens in spring 2027 alongside existing plans to release the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e at that time. It’s still too early to tell whether they can successfully redesign the iPhone Air in time to make that new release window, the people said.

Of course, it’s important to remember that Apple never said that it would launch a new iPhone Air model next year, so it’s impossible to know whether it was ever in the cards. But whether it was or not, it’s no surprise that the company would be looking at ways to add another camera to the mix.
