Tesla Might Add CarPlay, But Android Users Could Be Left Out

Tesla cars are known for being high-tech, but there’s one thing they’ve never had — Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. That might finally change soon, at least for iPhone users.

According to a new report from Bloomberg, Tesla is working on adding Apple CarPlay support to its cars.

This could help boost sales since many Tesla owners have been asking for it for years. Most other car brands already offer CarPlay and Android Auto, so Tesla is a bit behind in that area.

The report says CarPlay could arrive “in the coming months.” But since it’s Tesla, there’s no clear timeline. Sometimes “coming soon” can take a while.

Here’s the catch: while Tesla is planning to add CarPlay, it’s not working on Android Auto at all. That means Android users might still not get a direct way to connect their phones to Tesla’s screens.

CarPlay

This decision might make sense for Tesla’s main market, the United States, where about half of smartphone users own an iPhone. Studies show that many people won’t buy a car if it doesn’t support CarPlay or Android Auto, so adding CarPlay could help Tesla attract more buyers.

Still, ignoring Android users might upset a lot of people. Many Tesla owners are tech lovers, and plenty of them use Android phones. Whether Tesla changes its mind later is anyone’s guess.

For now, iPhone users can look forward to seeing CarPlay in their Teslas, while Android fans might still have to use Bluetooth or their phone mounts.
