Apple is roundly expected to announce its first foldable phone as soon as 2026, and a new report claims that it will boast an upgraded selfie camera that will be a first for the industry.
MacRumors reports that the so-called iPhone Fold will have an under-display 24-megapixel camera, build beneath its internal foldable screen. The report is based on a research report from JP Morgan, the outlet says.

This isn’t the first time that we’ve heard rumors of an under display camera being used. In fact, that’s the approach that other foldable phone makers have been taking of late. But this is the first time we have heard of a new 24-megapixel camera being used. Android foldables have so far used considerably lower resolution cameras.
By using a 24-megapixel camera, Apple will likely offer a notable upgrade in selfie shots.
The jump to a 24-megapixel camera (with six plastic lens elements, per the report) would therefore be a significant technological advance, potentially resulting in clearer, sharper images with more detail. The detail suggests Apple has achieved a breakthrough in greatly improving light transmittance and image quality compared to previous designs.
Rumors of the first foldable iPhone have been gathering pace as we get closer to that expected fall 2026 release window. And we can surely expect even more leaks as we get closer to that window.
