Rumor: iPhone 6s Plus Getting 2K Display, iPhone 6s 1080p

Even though the attention of the technology world is currently squarely on wearables thanks to the Apple Watch, it’s impossible to ignore the fact that a new iPhone – or iPhones – will likely be arriving as soon as September. With September drawing ever nearer, rumors are starting to materialize that revolve around what hardware will make the cut when Apple announces its new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

One new round of rumors coming out of Chinese blog Feng has Apple about to go toe-to-toe with its competition in the specifications war which is something the company historically hasn’t done before.

According to Feng, the battleground for this new war will be screen resolution, with the new iPhones likely to both pack higher resolution screens than anything Apple has managed to date.

According to the site in question, the iPhone 6s will come with the same 4.7-inch display as its older brother but with a full HD 1080p panel. The same site says that the iPhone 6s Plus will get a 5.5-inch, 2K display. At this point it’s worth pointing out that the current models ship with 1334 x 750 and 1920 x 1080 resolutions respectively, which means the new handsets would have quite the pixel advantage should this new report prove accurate.

Other tidbits to come out of the site includes the iPhone 6s featuring Force Touch and 32GB being the smallest capacity available to buy. Which also means that the days of measly 16GB devices would be long gone, and users won’t end up fighting for that extra bit of storage space for cramming in their content onto their devices.

Apple has avoided the ‘speeds and feeds’ approach taken by Android smartphone and tablet makers over the years, but if this latest rumor is indeed accurate then this could signal a change in that regard. Throwing even more pixels at the two new iPhones only a year after Apple upgraded resolutions with 6 and 6 Plus speaks of trying to keep up with Android, with phones using Google’s mobile operating system seemingly gaining higher resolution screens with each and every release.

If this rumor is indeed true, two new phones could be about to join the fray – and they’re going to have Apple logos on their backs.
