Apple has officially said goodbye to Clips, its quirky short-form video app launched back in 2017.
The app was Apple’s attempt to bring a fun, creative video experience to iPhone users — complete with square videos, playful effects, and automatic captions. But in a world ruled by TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts, Clips never really caught on.

After years of sitting quietly in the App Store, Apple has now confirmed that Clips is officially discontinued. The app has been removed from the App Store and won’t receive any future updates. If you’ve used Clips before, you can still redownload it on your iPhone or iPad running iOS 26, but Apple isn’t guaranteeing that it’ll work on future versions of iOS.
With Clips gone, Apple’s only remaining video-editing option for casual users is iMovie. However, iMovie hasn’t seen a major update since 2023, with only minor bug fixes arriving in December 2024. That raises a new question — is iMovie next on the chopping block?
Meanwhile, several other Apple apps, like Pages, Keynote, and Numbers, also haven’t received updates for the latest iOS versions. Even Apple-owned creative tools like Pixelmator Pro and Photomator are still waiting for Liquid Glass support.
For now, it seems Apple is quietly moving away from small creative tools — leaving the spotlight to the pros, and the short-form fun to TikTok.
