PSA: This iOS 27 Bug Can Freeze Your iPhone

Here’s a iOS 27 bug which is going viral and can cause your iPhone to freeze.

Apple released iOS 27 to the public a few days ago, but only after months of beta testing to ensure that it was as reliable as possible. Unfortunately, it appears that one particular notification bug survived all of that testing — and it’s going viral online right now.

The good news is that, despite what people might tell you, this bug does not “brick” your iPhone. At least, not permanently.

All you have to do is force restart your iPhone to get it back up and running. But that doesn’t make the bug any less of an issue.

As 9to5Mac reports, the bug is incredibly easy to reproduce. In essence, all it takes is a couple of swipes to bring an iPhone to a standstill.

On a phone running iOS 27, go to the Home Screen, then pull down from the top-left corner as if you were opening Notification Center. Almost immediately after, way before the Notification Center has finished sliding down, pull down from the right-hand corner to open Control Center. Then, dismiss Control Center and you can see if your phone has entered the borked state.

When this bug kicks in, the iPhone’s touchscreen becomes unusable. Pressing and holding the power button doesn’t allow you to power off the device because you can’t swipe the screen to confirm the action. That’s where the forced restart comes in.

Force restarting an iPhone is as easy as pressing the volume up button once, then pressing the volume down button once, then holding the power button until the Apple logo appears. From here, your iPhone should restart just fine.

Apple’s iOS 27.2 update is already in the hands of beta testers, but it seems this issue is still present. Hopefully it will be addressed before the update is made available to the public next month.
