A new PS5 jailbreak has caused the price of an old game to skyrocket. Here are the details on this.
Star Wars Racer Revenge is an old PS4 game that you might already have in your collection. And if you have, you might be able to use it to jailbreak your PS5. A new hack claims to use a newfound availability of the console’s ROM keys, which were leaked online over the new year.
Those keys are part of the way Sony has prevented the PS5 from being hacked and games pirated so far. And their public availability is a problem because they can’t be patched to prevent their use.
However, as a post by The Cybersec Guru notes, having the keys is one thing. You also need an entrypoint for a hack — and that’s where the Star Wars Racer Revenge game comes in.
The result is that eBay prices for the game have started to skyrocket as people seek them out. However, it’s worth noting that this is all a little more than a proof of concept right now. There is still no publicly available PS5 jailbreak just yet. And hackers have warned that more access is needed in order to make a jailbreak a reality.
