PS4 Release Date For North America And Europe Announced

Console makers rarely offer all of the key details in one hit, choosing instead to bleed information out slowly during lead-up to the point of release. Sony has pretty much followed the script, having announced (but not revealed) the PlayStation 4 in February, before finally allowing gamers a sneak peek at the new hardware just as Microsoft’s Xbox One hit the scene. With the specs and price now wrapped up and a great portion of the release titles confirmed, the PlayStation 4’s release date is the only key bit of information left, and today at the Gamescom trade show in Cologne, Germany, the company has confirmed that it will be arriving on November 15th in the US, with November 29th penned down for Europe.

So, if you’ve been waiting anxiously to get your hands on Sony’s next-gen marvel, well, you still do have quite a bit of a wait left. With that said, it’s always nice to have a concise, confirmed figure other than simply “fall,” and now, gamers can mark their diaries and begin counting down the days until the official release.

The Xbox One is expected to become available in November, launching in 13 countries across the world initially before arriving at a further 8 markets in early 2014. Although we don’t have an exact date on Microsoft’s console just yet, this revelation from Sony will likely prompt the software maker into some kind of announcement in the very near future.

If one thing is almost certain, it’s that neither of the big console vendors will want to be beaten to the draw by one another, so it will be intriguing to see whether Microsoft tries to nip the Xbox One in just before its fiercest rival.

Nevertheless, there you have it, folks. The PlayStation 4 is hitting the market on November 15th in the US and 29th in Europe, and I don’t know about you guys, but we’re pretty excited about the PS4 here at Redmond Pie! With a $399 price tag and a release date now well within the grasp of that holiday period, many will have already made up their minds, but with Microsoft looking to build upon the successes of the Xbox 360, the next-gen console wars look as finely poised as they ever have.

The PS4 will head over to a total of 32 countries before the end of the holiday season this year.
