Pangu Jailbreak For iOS 8 Already In The Works

Although the numerous jailbreaking gurus have been relatively quiet regarding a potential untethered jailbreak for the all-new iOS 8, the Chinese team Pangu has just delivered some very encouraging news. Although the collective stopped short of putting any kind of time frame on when the world might see its very first jailbreak on the new software, the group did say that it’s well on the way to cracking the new OS, and given that Pangu was responsible for bringing Cydia to folks seemingly stranded on iOS 7.1.x, we’re quietly excited about these claims.

Considering the lack of commentary from the jailbreak scene amid the public release of iOS 8, many were wondering whether Apple might have thrown hackers a curve-ball. But with Pangu having noted of its intention to liberate the new firmware in a Weibo posting, at least we now know that the ball is rolling.

The post on Weibo, translated by Google, reads:

[ Remind] iOS8 there one day time will be formally released , except when the estimated iPhone4 alia, the phone will not brush 7.1.2 firmware , and want to jailbreak , please pay close attention to the last time . iOS8, we have been on the road …

It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense when translated, but the final sentence is pretty clear, and with plenty of seasoned developers and security experts likely to begin scratching around for exploits as well, the chances of an iOS 8 jailbreak seem relatively high.

Relatively little was known of the Pangu group back when Evad3rs came through with its initial Evasi0n jailbreak for iOS 7, but just as it looked as though things were petering out in anticipation for iOS 8, Pangu’s utility ensured that every version of iOS 7 was jailbreakable. Although it was a little shaky at first – most of the steps were written in Chinese and the first run of Pangu installed a dodgy App Store-like utility for pirates – it was soon cleaned up, and if you’d still like to jailbreak on iOS 7.1.x, you can do so using the latest edition of Pangu.

So, there you have it. We’re not yet sure when an iOS 8 jailbreak is coming, but the team that brought us the last untethered jailbreak seems to be working on it. We’ll be keeping an eye out for any further developments, so stay tuned!
