Apple’s iPhone 18 isn’t expected to launch until 2027, but a new leak already claims to have knowledge about its display. According to that leak, iPhone 18 buyers can expect the device to have a brighter display.
In a post on the Chinese social network Weibo, leaker Instant Digital says that Chinese supplier BOE is unlikely to be able to offer the iPhone 18’s displays because of Apple’s brightness requirements.

The leak, reported by MacRumors, suggests that the iPhone 18 will have a significantly brighter display than its predecessors. The iPhone 17, Apple’s current non-Pro model, has a peak brightness of 3,000 nits when required — specifically to be used when the iPhone is outdoors.
There is no word yet on which display maker will replace BOE, but the news is perhaps backed up by a similar report by The Elec. That report notes that BOE is struggling to keep up with iPhone demand, leading Apple to move some of its business to Samsung Display to compensate for the shortfall.
The iPhone 18 is still over a year away from being announced, however, so plans could well change.
The iPhone 18 is tipped for an early 2027 release following a fall 2026 launch of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Apple is also expected to announce its first foldable iPhone alongside the Pro models later this year.
