The next-gen Xbox One and PlayStation 4 promise to revolutionize the powers and engines currently limited by their respective predecessors, but as will see from the GTA 5 screenshots, the developers are doing a pretty good job of maximizing what's currently on offer.

The three main characters all get a feature, as well as certain vehicles and landscapes in ultra-realistic quality. With September 17th, the date of the release, now looming, it would seem as though Rockstar is pulling out some of its trump cards, and if you weren't already counting down the days, hours and minutes until the title hits the retail market, you probably will be from now.

Grand Theft Auto is a long-standing and popular franchise, and irrespective of this labor Rockstar is clearly putting into ensuring it's one of the stand-out games of the year, it would definitely still sell in strong numbers thanks to the name. It's admirable, with this in mind, that so much meticulous effort is being made with GTA 5, and although this year is by no means a last hurrah for two current-gen consoles with plenty of life still in them, it serves as a decent bow before both the PS3 and Xbox 360 are forced to play second fiddle.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is available to pre-order, and if you're a fan of the series, I'm sure you'll struggle to find any reason not to pick this one up on September 17th.
