Apple is expected to announce a new Apple TV 4K set-top box during an event on October 13, and a new report claims that it will include support for using four HomePod smart speakers for surround sound purposes.
MacRumors reports that code discovered in macOS 27.2 beta 3 shows new symbols that depict a group of four speakers in a room.

And while the HomePod isn’t explicitly mentioned, one of the symbols appears to show four HomePods viewed from above. The other symbol mentions the use of four speakers in a home theater setting, suggesting that HomePod surround sound is coming to the new Apple TV.
This comes after leaker pdfu on social media uncovered code in the latest beta of the HomePod’s operating system, which also referenced the use of four HomePods in a surround sound setup.
However, it remains unclear whether this new surround sound feature will be limited to a new HomePod or if it will require the new Apple TV 4K.
Apple has yet to confirm the October 13 event, but it’s been heavily rumored by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Alongside the new Apple TV 4K, a refreshed HomePod mini and a new home hub device are also expected to be unveiled. The mystery device is thought to come in tabeltop and wall-mountable versions, but little is known about its capabilities.
