More Purported Images Of New iPhone Surfaces, Shows Off Smaller MagSafe-Like Dock Connector

One of the main areas of interest about the design changes that will accompany Apple's new smartphone lies in the dock connector at the bottom of the device. We had an inkling early on in the design process that they were intending to change the setup that has been ever-present since the original iPhone in 2007, but there has been some debate over the actual size of the connector that will form part of the new device. Original reports suggested that Apple were intending to cut the current 30-pin size down to a smaller 19-pin offering, but that is something that has been questioned and contradicted in subsequent reports.

It was only yesterday when we were treated to some internal logs from the latest beta version of iOS 6 that formed part of the behind-the-scene hardware setup and makes reference to a 9-pin device, leading us to believe that the new iPhone - and all subsequent iOS hardware releases - will have an integrated 9-pin dock connector. To add to that little nugget of information, some additional high-resolution images have emerged that apparently show the new Apple creation in its full glory.

Obviously we have no official confirmation whether these images are genuine or not, but one of the interesting things about the device that is shown is that the relocated 9mm headphone jack, and is actually on the right-hand side of the bottom bezel, whereas in previous images, it has been shown to be on the left-hand side of the device. A taken measurement also shows that the iPhone is indeed 7.6mm thick, which is a 1.7mm reduction on the current generation iPhone 4S. The metal band that seems to be sunken into the device and surrounding the new dock connector looks extremely familiar to the MagSafe type connector that is featured on Apple's Mac range of computers.

As days fly by, and the media event draws closer, we are getting closer and closer to an official announcement from Apple that will eventually put us out of our misery and remove all this speculation. I for one can't wait.

Thanks, Stagueve for the hat tip!
