Microsoft Sold Over 3 Million Xbox One Units In 2013

One commonly-used criticism of the Xbox One upon its announcement was that it focused too heavily on the entertainment side of things, as opposed to catering to its gaming roots. But I'd say the Redmond company has handled things rather well, and with advertising focusing heavily on Kinect's integration in both gaming and general use alike, the Xbox One is doing rather a good job of appealing to everybody.

Three million sold is certainly impressive going, and it will be very intriguing to see which of the two major consoles really kicks on and establishes a lead. The Xbox One may have a trump card over its main rival in the form of Kinect (as well as Xbox LIVE being an arguably better general interface), but with the Japanese company's effort being notably cheaper and quite a bit more powerful than its adversary, those still on the fence regarding which one to pick have plenty of food for thought.

Plenty of exciting titles will be hitting both consoles during the course of 2014, and we'd expect a bunch of announcements as both Sony and Microsoft look to assert their authority in this finely-poised duel.

2013 saw many great announcements and releases in the tech world, yet not even the latest Apple smartphone could upstage the inevitability of the next-gen console wars. Both Sony and Microsoft came through with their respective PlayStation 4 and Xbox One machines after months of teasers and revelations, and although it’s too early to determine which of these two titans will reign supreme, both have enjoyed impressive starts in the video game market. Yusuf Mehdi, VP of Marketing, Strategy and Business for the Xbox, has written a reflective piece on the early progress of the latest and greatest, revealing that over three million units have been sold across 13 different countries already.

The blog post over at Xbox.com, which is entitled "Thank You for an Epic 2013," pays homage to gamers and entertainment fans alike, as well as pointing out some of the great game releases that have helped the Xbox One hit the ground running over the course of the past six weeks.
