macOS Tahoe 26 Features New Powerful Spotlight, Live Activities, Games App, More

Apple today announced macOS Tahoe 26, a new software update for the Mac that will be released to the public this fall. The update debuted at the WWDC 2025 event that kicked off today.

The new macOS software will bring with it a number of new features as well as the move to Liquid Glass, Apple’s new design language.

The same move is also being made through software updates for the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Apple TV. The Apple Vision Pro already has an interface that is similar to the aim for Liquid Glass.

The move to Liquid Glass will bring with it updated Dock, sidebars, and toolbars as well as a tweaked Lock Screen.

The new look will extend to every corner of the macOS system, including Apple’s apps as well as third-party ones that are updated. Notifications and more have also received a new look.

The Mac also gains a Phone app for the first time, making use of the Continuity feature and connecting directory to a nearby iPhone. Call Screening and Hold Assist (two new Apple Intelligence features) are also present, allowing people to make more informed decisions on which calls they pick up.

One of the biggest updates comes to Spotlight, with Apple revamping the familiar feature to make it easier to access files and use apps. “During a search, all results — including files, folders, events, apps, messages, and more — are now listed together and ranked intelligently based on relevance to the user,” Apple announced via press release.

“New filtering options rapidly narrow searches to exactly what a user is looking for, like PDFs or Mail messages.”

Spotlight now also includes a built-in clipboard history and can surface features within apps, too, simply by searching for them.

Apple Intelligence is getting some improvements via support for Live Translation on FaceTime calls and within the Phone app, while the Shortcuts app will be able to use Private Cloud Computer and ChatGPT. Updates to Genmoji and Image Playground make those two Apple Intelligence features better than ever, too.

Finally, Apple announced a new Game app that will become a dedicated home for all your Mac gaming needs.

A new Game Overlay will also be available with access to quick settings and options, including Low Power  Mode, game invitations, and more.

An early developer beta is already available, but the macOS Tahoe 26 software isn’t expected to be released to the public until around September time.
