PwnageTool version 3.1.4 has been released which can jailbreak all iPhone’s (2G, 3G and 3GS) and the first and second generation iPod touch running iPhone firmware 3.1.2. The following step-by-step guide will enable you to jailbreak iPod touch (first and second generation) with firmware 3.1.2 on both Windows and Mac:
For Mac OS X Snow Leopard and Leopard users
Mac users can follow the instructions posted here with following changes for iPod touch 1G and 2G (iPod touch 3G is not supported):
- In Step 3, you will have to grab the original iPod touch firmware 3.1.2 from Apple for free (provided that you have bought 3.0) or just go ahead and buy the new firmware which costs a mere US $9.
- In Step 4, select iPod touch 2G when it asks for your device.
- Skip Step 6.
Rest of the steps from here on should be simple and straight forward.
For Windows 7, Vista and XP users
George Hotz’s (aka geohot) blackra1n is the best tool out there for jailbreaking iPod touch (1G, 2G and even 3G!) with firmware 3.1.2 on a Windows machine. Simply download the blackra1n app on your PC and then follow the step-by-step instructions posted here in order to successfully jailbreak your iPod touch with firmware 3.1.2 on Windows in just about 30 seconds!
