Redsn0w 0.9.8b7 Released For Windows And OS X, Brings Support For Updated iPad iOS 5 Beta 6 IPSW

iOS-5

The news comes straight from iPhone Dev Team member MuscleNerd. The 7th beta of popular jailbreaking tool Redsn0w 0.9.8 has been released today. It is a rather minor update which comes after Apple reportedly updated the IPSW for the first-generation iPad on iOS 5 Beta 6 without changing the version number or filename for unclear reasons. Beta 7 of Redsn0w 0.9.8, then, handles both the original as well as the updated IPSW.

Besides this, explicit support has been added for tethered jailbreak on iOS 4.3.5 and 4.2.10 which means users will no longer have to point Redsn0w to IPSWs of iOS 4.3.4/4.2.9 when jailbreaking.

Update #7: Apple updated the iPad1 iOS5b6 IPSW without changing its version number or filename, so we’re releasing redsn0w 0.9.8b7 to handle both the original and changed IPSW. We’ve also added explicit support for a tethered 4.3.5/4.2.10 jailbreak (instead of pointing at the 4.3.4/4.2.9 IPSWs) and fixed a 4.2.10 problem.

The procedure for jailbreaking remains the same. We’ve written a guide on how to jailbreak iOS 5 Beta 6 before, so you can go ahead and follow that using Redsn0w 0.9.8 Beta 7. You will need to download a copy of iOS 5 Beta 5 and 6 as well as the latest beta of iTunes 10 to get things going.

Keep in mind that this is a tethered jailbreak, meaning you will have to connect your iOS device with your computer to boot it into a jailbroken state. An untethered jailbreak will almost certainly come along by the end of the year or perhaps early next year after iOS 5 releases.

Lastly, you will not get over-the-air updates for the next Beta of iOS. You will instead have to connect your iOS device to your computer, launch iTunes and update from there. It is a tedious process, but we expect the vibrant jailbreaking will come up with a suitable solution soon.

iOS 5 is expected to launch in October alongside the strongly rumored launch of the next generation iPhone. Our readers will be notified as soon as it is released.
