iPhone 6 To Use Sharp’s Next Generation Screens

The newspaper believes Sharp will begin manufacturing their next-generation "low-temperature poly-silicon" in 2012 at its Kameyama plant, normally reserved for making LCD TVs.

The new screen technology allows manufacturers to put the optical sensors and other electronics directly onto the screen's glass, making it possible to make thinner screens than is possible using older technology. Thinner screens don't just mean thinner phones - the space saved could be used elsewhere, perhaps adding NFC circuitry or more storage capacity.

Other improvements include improved color reproduction as well as a stronger overall construction due to the use of less parts.
