iPhone 17 Might Bring Back The Lanyard Trend, Here’s What We Know

New leaks hint that iPhone 17 cases could include built-in lanyard attachment points, similar to AirPods Pro 2, but likely sold separately.

It looks like Apple could be adding a nostalgic twist to the iPhone 17. According to recent leaks, the company’s official cases for the upcoming iPhone might include built-in lanyard attachment points, yes, just like the AirPods Pro 2 charging case.

The rumor first came from leaker Majin Bu, who suggested earlier this week that iPhone 17 cases may support lanyards. Then, another well-known source, DuanRui, backed it up by sharing a CAD image of what’s allegedly the iPhone 17 Pro case. The design shows two small spots in the bottom corners where a lanyard could attach.

If true, this wouldn’t be Apple’s first flirtation with lanyards. The iPod touch (5th gen) had a built-in lanyard connector, and the AirPods Pro 2 charging case already has a cutout for one.

Apple never made its own lanyards for AirPods, instead relying on third-party accessories — so it’s likely the same will happen for the iPhone 17.

For now, this is still very much a rumor. The leaked CADs and claims came from sources that often share info from Weibo, China’s social media hub. Nothing’s official until Apple says so, but if this is real, the iPhone 17 could make it easier than ever to keep your device secure and always within reach.

The iOS 26 software is expected to be released alongside the new iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro in September.
