Here is a list of iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro eSIM-only countries that you may need to know about when getting the new iPhone.
Apple today announced iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro series and the company confirmed that eSIM-only models sold in some countries will have better battery life as it allows for a larger battery that fills the space formerly occupied by the physical SIM card tray.

According to Apple’s page, eSIM-only models will give up to 2 hours more battery compared to the model with physical SIM tray.
If you’re wondering which countries will have eSIM-only models, here’s a list provided by Apple:
- Bahrain
- Canada
- Guam
- Japan
- Kuwait
- Mexico
- Oman
- Qatar
- Saudi Arabia
- United Arab Emirates
- United States
- U.S. Virgin Islands
Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea and China will not have eSIM-only models and will instead be selling the models with physical SIM tray slot for nano SIM.
Keep in mind that iPhone Air is eSIM-only worldwide, including China.
When the iPhone 14 series debuted in 2022, Apple highlighted eSIMs as a more secure alternative to physical SIM cards, since they cannot be removed from a lost or stolen iPhone. Additionally, iPhones can manage up to eight eSIMs simultaneously, removing the need to acquire, carry, or swap physical SIM cards during travel.
