Apple’s new iPhones officially go on sale in less than 24 hours, and the reviews are already in. We also now have our first battery life tests, and concerns over the iPhone Air might have been unfounded.
The battery life of the new iPhones was put to the test by YouTuber The Tech Chap who tested the battery life by running a continuous YouTube video stream. The results showed that while there was a difference in how well the iPhones performed, the differences might be smaller than you’d expect.
The testing also included an iPhone 16 Pro Max which managed to run for seven hours and 29 minutes before expiring. That was beaten by the iPhone 17 Pro Max which managed seven hours and 58 minutes.
But what might be most interesting is the fact that the iPhone Air died after six hours and 43 minutes, barely less than the iPhone 17’s score of six hours and 55 minutes.
While this test isn’t quite how most people will use their new iPhones, it’s an indication that the iPhone Air’s battery situation might not be as dire as some had thought. Apple made the iPhone Air thinner which means a smaller battery, but these results suggest future owners can perhaps still expect iPhone 17-like performance.
The new iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max went up for preorder on September 12. They’ll go on sale on September 19 at Apple Stores around the world.
