iOS 26.2 Features A New AirDrop Privacy Feature

Following the release of the iOS 26.2 update to the public, Apple’s AirDrop feature has a new privacy feature that requires a code to be entered for an AirDrop file transfer to take place.

Apple describes the feature as “an additional layer of verification when using AirDrop with unknown contacts by providing a code on the receiver’s device that the sender must enter to complete the transfer.”

In use, AirDrop suers can require that anyone who isn’t in their contacts require to be authorized for file transfers by entering a new one-time code. The sender has to enter the code, provided by the receiver, in before the file transfer can take place.

This change will hopefully help people avoid being AirDrop bombed by strangers, something that has the potential to be a problem for those who have AirDrop open to everyone.

The iOS 26.2 software is now available for download by everyone following a weeks-long beta process. There are new updates across a range of features, but those hoping or any big new changes will likely find themselves disappointed. However, we recommend installing the update even if only for the bug fixed and security updates.

The iOS 26.2 update was also joined by new updates for the iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and Apple Vision Pro, too.
