How To Set Instagram Photos As A Beautiful Desktop Screensaver On Mac

Screenstagram

Here at Redmond Pie, many apps are brought to our attention on a daily basis, and while most are what we’d consider clones of an already established (and often, much better) offering, sometimes a new one arrives with its own unique twist.

There are an unholy amount of apps trying to hop aboard the Instagram gravy train, and it’s almost gotten to the point where I mentally blacklist any new “stagram” suffixed apps by default. However, almost being the operative word, I’ve today discovered Screenstagram, which, rather than simply creating another tired iteration of what’s already out there, uses the many billions of images available on Instagram to create a beautiful, collage screen saver for Mac.

Selected at random, you never know what you’re going to get from the weird and wonderful world of Instagram, and although the recent Facebook acquisition is probably not considered a primary source of world culture, it will certainly open your eyes to many sights you perhaps otherwise wouldn’t have taken a look at.

As opposed to merely selecting random images every time your screen saver is initiated, they change dynamically, allowing you to see a whole bunch of different shots from the world of Instagram in one sitting.

By clicking “Options” in the OS X Desktop & Screen Saver menu, you can also log into your very own Instagram, which will in turn mix your own photos with those of your friends to offer a more personal experience. Once you’ve logged in, you can rest assured developer The Barbarian Group will not be using your details for anything untoward, and will simply enable you to keep the people – and the images – closest to you, in view at all times.

Personally, I have to admit, get a little bored of looking at images posted by those on my own Instagram circles, and having seen what Screenstagram looks like when logged in, I’ve opted to log out in order to see what the rest of the Instagram world has deemed highly-rated enough to bless my screen.

It’s absolutely free of charge, and can be had by clicking the download link provided below. Be sure to leave your thoughts on our Facebook and Google+ pages!
