How To Get iOS 7.1 Touch ID & Passcode Option In iOS 7.0 – 7.0.6

Those who can’t function without a jailbreak are forced to stay on iOS 7.0.x unless iOS 7.1 is exploited. If you’re one of those people then the chances are that iOS 7.1 includes a few tidbits that definitely have that appeal factor.

One small aspect of iOS 7.1 that has been up for discussion is the location of the Touch ID & Passcode settings on iPhone 5s. Apple is clearly of the opinion that accessing these vital security settings are of paramount importance going forward and has therefore moved the options front and center in the native Settings app.

iPhone 5s Touch ID

To replicate the shift of Touch ID & Passcode on pre-iOS 7.1 devices, the following will be required:

  • A jailbroken iPhone 5s running iOS 7.0.x.
  • App to access the iOS file system, such as iFile, CyberDuck, iFunBox or similar.
  • The desire to replicate one of Apple’s small but notable changes that shipped with the latest version of iOS.

Step 1: Before making any changes to the iOS file system, it’s always good practice to make some initial backups in the event of any problems occurring. Using iFile, or your preferred software of choice to access the file system, make copies of the Settings.plist and iconCache@2x.artwork files found in the following location:

/Applications/Preferences.app

Step 2: After backing up those two files, download and unzip the new customized files.

Step 3: Using iFile, or once again the preferred file manage of choice, take the unzipped files from Step 2 and copy them into the following location on the jailbroken iOS device:

/Applications/Preferences.app

It may not be the most innovative or exciting customization that you will ever come across on a jailbroken device, but it will ultimately appeal to those who feel they are being left behind by iOS 7.1.

It is also worth noting that some users have reported that making the above changes doesn’t prompt for the passcode to be entered before changes can be made.

Thanks, Mike for sending this in!
