Drivers of Tesla electric vehicles will start to see support for Grok, xAI’s assistant, appearing in their software starting next week. That’s according to Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
While xAI announced Grok 4 during a stream online, there was no mention of any arrival in Tesla vehicles.

However, in a post on the X social network, Musk later confirmed that it would be arriving “by next week.” It isn’t yet clear which vehicles or in which countries the Grok AI will arrive, though. It’s been suggested that newer vehicles running the AMD Ryzen-based hardware will get the feature, while older ones will be left out in the cold.
However, as NotaTeslaApp notes, it’s likely that Musk is referring to an early test of the software that will only be available to Tesla employees and other testers initially. From there, a gradual release to the public is expected. There is no telling when that will happen, but it’s also possible that Musk will surprise everyone and make Grok available to all.
The outlet also notes that the Grok UI was already present in a recent software update, although customers could not access it. That means that another software update will need to be pushed to owners’ vehicles in order for them to make use of the AI features.
As for what Grok will do, it’s likely that it will be integrated into the voice command system, among other things. Grok is also expected to be able to hold a continuous conversation, answering questions and performing tasks as it goes.
