Google has announced that it will launch its first pair of AI smart glasses next year, with Samsung, Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker involved in the design and technology.
The announcement says that there will be two types of glasses on offer. The first of those glasses is a pair that will be designed for a screen-free experience, featuring built-in speakers and cameras.

The company is also working on glasses with a built-in display that will highlight useful information, but that won’t be ready until after the first pair.
First, there are AI glasses designed for screen-free assistance, which use built-in speakers, microphones and cameras to let you chat naturally with Gemini, take photos and get help. And then there are display AI glasses, which add an in-lens display that privately shows you helpful information, right when you need it, like turn-by-turn navigation or translation captions. The first glasses will arrive next year.
Google expects its glasses to be lightweight and stylish, but time will tell how much of that it follows through on. The same goes for capabilities, because there is no doubt that the lack of a display will make this first iteration less attractive to buyers.
This news comes as Apple is reportedly also hard at work on its own smart glasses. If the rumors are accurate, Apple may announce its own AI-powered glasses at WWDC in June 2026.
