Facebook To Launch “Something Awesome” Next Week: Mark Zuckerberg

The news comes from Reuters, one of the world’s most reliable and trusted news agency. Their editor reports that Zuckerberg confirmed to inquiring reporters at their Seattle office that the company plans to “launch something awesome” next week:

Chief Executive and founder Mark Zuckerberg told reporters in a visit to Facebook's Seattle office on Wednesday that the company planned to "launch something awesome" next week.

He said the project had been developed at the 40-person Seattle office, Facebook's only major engineering center outside of its Palo Alto, California headquarters.

It’s obviously not exactly clear to us what this feature/product will be. But if the recent leaks are anything to go by, it is either a photo-sharing app for iOS or, of course, the highly anticipated official Facebook for iPad app.

The photo-sharing app, as Goncalo talked about, would be a dedicated app for iOS whose main and only feature would be, well, to share photos. It is supposed to take on the likes of Instagram, Path and PicPlz which are photo-sharing apps that have gained significant popularity among smartphone users.

The second possibility is of the Facebook for iPad app. It’s been over a year since the original iPad released and we have yet to see an official app for the popular tablet. The absence of an official app has allowed apps like Friendly and MyPad (great apps on their own right) to fill the gap. That gap, however, may not be there in the coming weeks as NYT reported that its release it close at hand.

There are also possibilities that this awesome launch may be of that Project Spartan we’ve been hearing about. But the chances of it are low compared to the previously mentioned products. This is because of the simple fact that Project Spartan is, well, a pretty gigantic project. I would personally bet on Facebook releasing their photo-sharing app and an iPad app before launching their alleged iOS App Store competitor.

Facebook declined to provide details about the features.

Facebook has been rather leaky lately. We’ve heard and covered a leaked photo sharing app, “Project Spartan” and a reportedly imminent iPad app. Today, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, has confirmed the launch of a new Facebook feature/product which is set to be announced next week. Could this be in reaction to all the attention that Google+ has been getting this week? Maybe, just maybe!
