hi-124-11

Facebook for Android is among the most downloaded free apps on the Android Market. Today’s update brings all of the features introduced in the Facebook for iPhone 3.5 update (that was pushed a few weeks back) to Android. These feature updates will certainly ensure that people start using the native app again, as folks were beginning to use the powerful HTML5-based Facebook Mobile website.

As we mentioned in the introductory paragraph, Facebook for Android 1.7 allows users to control privacy settings for each post they share, tag friends and places in posts, tag friends in photos, the ability to swipe photos (previously, users had to tap to go forward or back), pull-to-refresh, updated UI and, the biggest feature yet, support for Honeycomb tablets.

From Android Market:

Share and stay connected with your friends with the Facebook for Android app. Facebook for Android makes it easy to stay connected and share with friends.

What's in this version:

  1. Made it easier to share with who you want
  2. Improved the sharing tool to add privacy controls on posts and match your settings on the web site
  3. Added the ability to tag friends and places in posts
  4. Added new design for Profile and Group Walls
  5. Fixes and tweaks:
  6. Improved photo browsing with swiping
  7. Added the ability to tag your friends in photos
  8. Improved Messages and Notifications
  9. Fixed a number of crashes and performance issues

We have personally tested the app on our Samsung Galaxy S II and can confirm that the new features work as intended. If you’re used to accessing Facebook via their mobile website because you find the native app to be too slow, this just might change your mind!

If you are interested, the app may be downloaded from the link embedded at the end. Folks who have already installed it should open up Market from their Android device and download the update from there.
